West Island Mission

Dear Friends,

Before the COVID-19 pandemic West Island Mission had been battling food insecurity on the West Island of Montreal. It’s now threatening to become a national crisis, many business closures and precarious employment only means our numbers will increase exponentially over the coming weeks.

West Island Mission serves the most vulnerable within our community on a daily basis. We are working hard to ensure no one is falling through the cracks. We are doing our very best to get healthy, balanced food baskets out the door to those who are being hit the hardest during this crisis.

We have changed gears slightly and are preparing baskets in advance for our families to pick up outside of our facility during their scheduled appointment (no line ups, no contact). We have increased our weekly spending to ensure the baskets are filled with FRESH items such as milk, eggs, bread, fruits and vegetables. We want everyone to stay healthy during this uncertain time.

We have limited the number of volunteers in our warehouse and are following a strict protocol to ensure we are keeping our clients, volunteers and staff safe.

The government’s announcement of direct financial support to Canadians is great, however we know it will take time before it is available and will be only a percentage of our client’s already low income. Support is needed NOW for those organizations working on the front lines to ensure we are providing the necessary food and supplies to those who need it the most.

West Island Mission is making an appeal to the community for help, please donate at www.wimmoi.org

“In the Community, For the Community, By the Community”

West Island Mission (WIM) regularly provides well-balanced, high quality food assistance and other related aid, to the less fortunate living in the West Island of Montreal. Their mission and purpose is to seek out and make a difference in the lives of people who struggle with poverty; to see peoples' suffering and despair replaced by joy and hope.  Annual Christmas Basket and Back to School Pack provision events are a central part of WIM’s programs.
